Muskingum University
The Department of Music is an academic community within Muskingum University, and is a fully accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Through offerings in musicology, music theory, applied study, and performance ensembles, the Department of Music seeks to develop the whole musician. Muskingum University offers the Bachelor of Arts in Music as well as the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. A minor in music is also offered and participation in the department is open to all.
Mission Statement
The mission of Muskingum University is to offer quality academic programs in the liberal arts and sciences in the setting of a residential, coeducational, church-related university and in the context of a caring community where individual fulfillment is encouraged and human dignity is respected. Its primary purpose is to develop—intellectually, spiritually, socially and physically—whole persons, by fostering critical thinking, positive action, ethical sensitivity and spiritual growth, so that they may lead vocationally productive, personally satisfying and socially responsible lives.

Our concert and recital series presents more than 40 events on and off campus each year, while touring ensembles take our music on the road, from Nashville to New York and London to Leipzig.

Many Muskingum music majors have pursued graduate study in music performance or related fields. Recent graduates have attended The Ohio State University, Cleveland Institute of Music, University of Akron, University of Colorado Boulder, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and University of Nevada at Reno. Other graduates are active performers, both in southeastern Ohio and across the country.
